Biography

Background: I was born in Herington, KS and grew up on a farm northwest of Durham, KS. Most of my first jobs were in accounting departments in the banking industry in Salina, McPherson and Lyons, KS. I married in 1968 and have a son and a daughter. Significant experiences that I and my teen age children went through after the sudden and unexpected death of spouse and father in 1988 led me to become interested in Social Work as a career. While taking college classes I worked as a certified nurse aid and learned how gratifying it is to work with elders. I re–married in 1991 and in 1993, after graduation from Bethel, I moved to the Newton area with my husband, Gary. I was offered the position of Social Service Director and began working at Bethesda in 1995.

Personal Interests: I enjoy spending time with family (our four children and seven grandchildren), traveling with my husband, reading and working in my wildflower garden. Planning for and participating in trips to different National Parks with blended family has become a joyous tri–annual activity.

Why Bethesda Home?: I became acquainted with Bethesda Home when a family member was a resident here and we experienced the quality of care. Bethesda is a Christian based organization where the goal is to give quality service addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of residents. It is good to be a staff member in an environment where we, the staff and residents, become like “family” to each other.
